Transitional Kindergarten
Transitional Kindergarten serves as a valuable bridge, addressing the social-emotional and academic needs of younger rising kindergarteners who may not yet be ready for a traditional kindergarten setting. Designed for older 4-year-olds and younger 5-year-olds, this program provides additional time and a developmentally appropriate curriculum to help children build confidence and foundational skills, ensuring they are well-prepared for kindergarten.

The Value of Transitional Kindergarten at St. Aidan’s
For young 5-year-olds and older 4-year-olds, an extra year before kindergarten can make a meaningful difference. Our Transitional Kindergarten (TK) program provides a nurturing environment where children develop essential early learning skills, ensuring a smooth and confident transition to kindergarten.

At St. Aidan’s, our TK curriculum blends structured learning with hands-on exploration to support the whole child. Early literacy and math foundations are built through engaging, research-based programs. From August through December, we use Zoo-phonics to strengthen letter and sound recognition, setting the stage for reading readiness. Beginning in January, we introduce the Saxon Phonics, Spelling, and Math curriculum, alongside Raz-Kids to further enhance literacy development.

Throughout the year, students build key skills in:
-
Language & Literacy: Early reading, writing, spelling, and sight word recognition
-
Math Readiness: Number sense, counting, and problem-solving
-
Social & Emotional Growth: Self-regulation, teamwork, and independence

A balance of circle time, small and large group instruction, and hands-on learning centers keeps children actively engaged. Enrichment activities in phonics, social studies, and geography complement the core curriculum, while Music & Movement, Chapel, and daily outdoor play ensure a well-rounded experience. Parents receive progress evaluations in December and May, providing insight into their child’s development.
Transitional Kindergarten at St. Aidan’s is more than just an extra year—it’s a strong foundation for lifelong learning and success.
